Debug Mode
Rather than typing "xcute" to run the game normally, type "xcute hellbentdeathspew" and press Enter/Return. This enables Debug Mode, which allows you to spawn items at the push of the appropriate buttons during gameplay. Note: There's no notification the code worked other than items appearing when you press a key:
[G] - Spawn a machine gun.
[X] - Spawn an axe.
[F] - Spawn food or a 1up at random.
[W] - Warp to the next level.
